![]() ![]() ![]() Since that "very motivating, inspirational study," Keytruda has bagged approvals in 16 types of cancer or more than 30 different indications, with over a million patients treated, he said. This meant Rubin and his team could work closely with the FDA to "really quickly generate the data so that our first-in-human study became a 1,200-patient trial, there had never been a Phase I like that before." That study provided the basis for accelerated approvals in melanoma and lung cancer, plus the first companion diagnostic in the field, the PD-L1 protein assay, developed in conjunction with Agilent. We applied and Keytruda was the first oncology drug to actually get that designation." He claimed that "the timing was good because the US Food and Drug Administration and the US Congress at the time were really interested in trying to enable more rapid development of promising drugs and came up with breakthrough designation. I had friends, who were also Phase I doctors around the world calling me saying they'd never seen something like this before." Good Timing Speaking to Scrip ahead of ESMO, Rubin said: "I feel very honored to have helped in the development of something that's been so transformational for cancer patients." He noted that "even in the earliest beginnings of the study at the lower doses of the drug, then known as MK3475, there were remarkable responses, initially in melanoma. A couple of years later, he devised "a bold and ingenious plan to leapfrog the competition and accelerate the development of Keytruda (pembrolizumab)," according to Merck. Rubin, now senior vice president for early oncology clinical development at Merck Research Laboratories, joined the company in 2008. Keytruda will once again feature prominently at the upcoming European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) congress and Eric Rubin, who led the initial development of the anti-PD-1 immunotherapy marketed by Merck & Co., Inc. (known as MSD outside the US and Canada) will be in Paris to hear how the game-changing treatment is continuing to dominate the headlines eight years after its first approval. ![]() The good news is the less-expensive Ashford heddles fit both looms. The Flip is more stable in the upshed than the Harp, but it just hooks under the heddle blocks in the downshed position. The Harp's heddle is very secure in the downshed and neutral positions. If you weave at a flatter angle you shouldn't have a problem. I have trouble with the Harp's heddle falling off the upshed slots, unless my warp is pretty tight, but that's because I like to weave with my loom at about a 45 degree angle. The heddle stability is about the same on both. The Harp 8-dent heddle holes did not look any larger. The Harp's holes & hooks are smaller, and it's not easy to thread Sugar & Cream yarn though a 10-dent heddle hole. One thing I really like about the Flip is that the heddle holes - at least on the 8-dent heddle - are elongated and the heddle hook has a decently-sized hook. You can use the Harp as a warping board with a project on the loom, though I haven't done that. The Harp comes with a built-in warping board, which is quite handy if you don't have one already. ![]() The Flip isn't ugly by any stretch of the imagination, but the Harp is definitely more attractive and something I wouldn't mind leaving out for company to see. I would guess that in equivalent sizes the Flip would weigh more. The Harp seems to be just as strong, however at least the way I've used it. The video mostly covers their spinning wheels, but the rest of it covers warping, using the warping board, how to use the heddle, and IIRC it starts you on the project in the booklet.Īt first glance, the Flip is more robust and sturdy-looking the Harp is more refined and 'stylish'. Its booklet is downloadable in color from the Kromski site (which you might want to do so you can make the pictures bigger), and includes instructions for a first project. It does list some books, magazines, and websites. The Flip's instructions leave a lot to be desired - it is a small 10-page booklet that, had I started with a Flip instead of a Harp, I would've had a lot more difficulty learning to weave. You get a warping peg, two shuttles, a pickup stick, a heddle hook, a pair of loom clamps, a bunch of pegs for the warping board, and an instruction booklet and video. You also need to 'assemble' the apron strings - the Flip has the laddered kind that you just thread the ends through the Harp has the kind you have to melt to stick together. The Harp is unassembled, but comes with excellent instructions with drawings, and IIRC it took me about an hour or less you do need a screwdriver. (I also like that you get to pick which heddle you get when you order.) You get a warping peg, two shuttles, a heddle hook, a pair of loom clamps, and an instruction booklet. All you need to do is unfold the Flip and attach the apron rods - about 5 minutes for Ms. The Flip wins for being the easiest and fastest to put together. I have all the heddles for the Harp (8, 10, 12) but have only used the 10 so far, and the 8-dent heddle for the Flip. Keep in mind that I am a very inexperienced weaver - I'm on my third project on the Harp, and first on the Flip the looms are different sizes (Harp - 24", Flip - 15") and I'm a visual learner. Here are my impressions of the two looms (with probably too much detail ). Some of it I covered last weekend, but here is my post, in a (really large) nutshell: Since I have nothing to show for this week (and I'm going to be plying the rest of the day), I decided to use my answer for today's post. ![]() On a weaving list I was asked for my opinion regarding the Kromski Harp vs. Regardless of the medium you've used to create your list, keep it backed up and in a safe place. The lyrics "I'm from the Dirty, but that chico nice, y'all call it a moment, I call it life" suggest that Pitbull came from a rough environment but has risen above his circumstances and embraced the good things in life. The opening lines, "Ask for money, and get advice, ask for advice, get money twice" highlights the idea that true wealth comes in the form of wisdom, knowledge, and life experiences. Pitbull's verses speak about his accomplishments as a successful artist, including traveling the world, making billions of dollars, and meeting interesting people, while Christina Aguilera's chorus emphasizes the importance of forgetting about the past or future and living in the moment. The lyrics describe the joy of experiencing life's special moments, which money cannot buy. She may need emergency veterinary care to help recover from the condition, especially if it is spreading or growing worse. If you think there’s a chance your dog could have frostbite but you’re not sure, it’s better to err on the side of caution and take her to the emergency vet for examination. Bring Your Pet in Right Away for Any Signs of Frostbite on Dog Paws Limit her time outdoors when temperatures drop below freezing, and always examine her feet when she comes back inside. ![]() You can prevent frostbite on your dog’s paws by putting her in booties when she will be walking on very cold surfaces, on ice, or in snow. Take your pet to the emergency vet and understand that the treatment may be a long one. ![]() If you notice black spots on your dog’s paw pads that are not there normally and you know she has been outside in the cold, treat this as a serious medical emergency. If your dog never receives medical care for blackening of the skin due to frostbite, this may cause her to lose her foot entirely. This means the skin tissue has died completely in these locations, and the problem may spread if it is left untreated. Blackeningįinally, one of the worst symptoms of frostbite on a dog’s paw pads is blackening of the skin. It may take dogs with blistering frostbite a long time to recover fully from this condition. Once the frostbite itself is under control, the vet will likely give you antibiotics to protect your dog from potentially developing an infection in these open wounds on her feet. Either way, they are a serious threat to your dog’s health and need to be taken care of promptly. Blisters may appear as pus-filled or fluid-filled sacs on the paw pad, or they may look more like open wounds or ulcers on the skin. Blistering usually means the frostbite is moderate to severe. BlisteringĪnother common symptom of frostbite on dog paws is blistering. If your dog’s paw pad is cold to the touch, feels brittle, or both, then you need to take her to the emergency vet sooner rather than later. This is because of the dying skin tissue, and it means the frostbite may be more serious than you could have originally thought. Sometimes, the cold paw pad skin may also have a brittle feeling. This is due to the temperature of the affected skin becoming much colder than the average body temperature of a human-so when you touch the paw pad, you’ll notice just how cold it really is. Cold to the Touchīecause frostbite causes the skin to become much too cold, it also makes the affected area feel cold to the touch. Look for any signs of pain in your dog, including the less common ones, to determine whether or not she might be dealing with frostbite. On the other hand, she may just be defensive about having her paw handled, and she might be limping and favoring the sore paw. Your dog may be in a lot of pain and may be hiding, cowering, or becoming aggressive because of it. If the paw pad is both swollen and discolored, this is a very good indicator that your dog has frostbite and needs emergency vet treatment to recover. The longer the frostbite continues, the more swelling the paw pad is likely to experience. If you notice this symptom, monitor her closely to see if the condition worsens-or just go ahead and take her to the emergency vet to be sure she gets the care she needs. No matter the color, if your dog’s paw pads are changing in appearance after she’s been outside in the cold, this is not a good sign.Ĭolor changes are typically the first signs that a dog is suffering from frostbite on her paw pads. You are likely well aware of your dog’s normal paw pad color, so you can recognize easily when this color is not right.įor example, if your dog naturally has black paw pads, they might turn gray or very pale if she has pink paw pads, they might turn blue. The color of a dog’s paw pads will change, sometimes drastically, if she is dealing with frostbite. If you suspect your dog is suffering from frostbite, take her to the emergency vet right away.ĥ signs of frostbite on dog paws include, but may not be limited to: Color Changes Read through the list below to find out more about some common signs and symptoms associated with frostbite on a dog’s paw pads. Frostbite on Dog Paws: Signs and How Can it be Preventedĭo you live in a cold climate? Do you take your dog outside for walks frequently, even when it’s very cold? If so, you need to learn how to recognize the signs of frostbite on dog paws and understand how you can prevent this dangerous condition, too. Air leakage problems can be worst at the HVAC furnace or air handler cabinet, where air pressures are highest. If the ducts are leaky, they can be a source of energy loss through loss of heated or cooled air, poor HVAC performance through loss of air pressure in the ducts, and comfort problems. Many homes are equipped with central forced air systems that rely on ducts to transport heated or cooled air from a furnace or heat pump to the rest of the home. See the Compliance Tab for related codes and standards, and criteria to meet national programs such as DOE’s Zero Energy Ready Home program, ENERGY STAR Single-Family New Homes, and Indoor airPLUS. Verify that the duct system meets code or program airtightness requirements. Use a duct blower tester to test the airtightness of the air handler/furnace cabinet and ducts. If the insulation has been compromised, repair it with approved spray glue and additional insulation. Check the insulation inside the air handler where the conduit enters.Use a sealing putty to seal the inside of the high-voltage wire conduit termination point in the air handler after the wiring has been installed.Seal all fixed seams in the cabinets and all seams between the cabinet and the supply or return plenums with mastic or mastic and fiberglass mesh fabric.Seal all unused conduit knockouts with UL-listed tape or mastic.Use UL-approved gaskets to seal cabinet doors and access panels. ![]()
![]() ![]() On average, finished Manta Montages get near the upper $20,000s, which means this car is priced quite reasonably in my humble opinion. The owner writes that the car runs and drives, and he’s asking $22,000 for it here on Los Angeles Craigslist. Also, who would have guessed that gold daisy mags could look so good on an exotic? it appears that the headlights need to be finished, but they're looking rad already. The exterior of the car isn’t quite complete yet, but there’s no denying that this one has the right look. The owner cites that all the components are either brand new or rebuilt. It’s powered by a 350 SBC topped by exotic Weber 48IDA carburetors and backed by a Porsche transaxle. It’s clear the builder was a meticulous fellow, evidenced by the thorough build quality and sanitary condition of the chassis and mechanicals. It’s a treat to find any Montage in reasonable condition today, but it’s the V8-powered cars that really get our gears spinning, and this small-block Chevy powered Montage project car on Los Angeles Craigslist is just about perfect in our eyes. The Montage made its largest contribution to pop culture in the first season of the 1983 TV show Hardcastle and McCormick. An affordable version of the Montage was designed on a VW air-cooled pan, while the Montage-T used a tubular spaceframe chassis. Manta’s Montage was no less exotic in appearance, having taken its shape from the rare McLaren M6GT Can-Am car. The Mirage sold well and was also seen on the big screen in the 1974 film Gone in 60 Seconds. The Mirage mirrored exotic looking Can-Am race cars of the 1970s, and was built on a steel tubular chassis and most often completed with Chevrolet small-block engines mated to a Corvair transaxle with a special adaptor. Manta had two main production models, the Mirage and Montage, sometimes referred to as the Can-Am and McLaren respectively. I have considered selling the car more than once, it is one of those love hate realationships. If I can get a trans that will hang, I would consider some vintage racing. Opened by brothers Brad and Tim LoVette in 1974, Manta Cars operated in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana California until 1986, having built around 1,000 kit cars and turnkey vehicles. The car is cool because of its stunning looks, loud headers and is quicker from 0 to 100 than any other car or motorcycle I have raced to date. Not every kit car from the 1970s satisfies this list, but the Manta sure does. ![]() But most importantly, a good kit car has to have super car panache - something the neighbors see roll out of your garage and question how well they really knew you. First of all, it’s gotta be fun to drive, because that’s the whole point right? Secondly it has to be something you can build (or rebuild/maintain in this case) at home in your garage without going broke, so the availability of spares is something to keep in mind. A good kit car really ought to do a few key things. |
